Teaching

One of the reasons I went into academia is my love of teaching. I am lucky enough to have taught at three universities (Rutgers University-Newark, Fordham University, and Bridgewater State University), both in-person and online classes. I try to keep things interesting, with a focus on class discussion and small projects to help students take what they learn and explore how it can be used.

My teaching is focused on praxis: taking the research and theory I am presenting and showing the ways that it can be used in the nonprofit world. I also have explored how to use media as an educational medium, a topic I have presented on at the Teaching Public Administration Conference and the Northeastern Conference on Public Administration. I currently use the TV show The Good Place as a case study in my Administrative Ethics class.

One simulation I use, an advocacy simulation, provides students with an experience of running a nonprofit organization in crisis, and the complex situations that nonprofits deal with. You can download a copy of it here:
